LANGSTON - A tough shooting night came back to haunt the Langston Lady Lions on Saturday, Nov. 4 as they fell 77-60 to Oklahoma Panhandle State in a non-conference matchup at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse.
The Lady Lions shot a season-low 35 percent (19-of-53) and committed 29 turnovers as they moved to 1-2 overall on the season. In contrast the Aggies hit 44 percent (23-of-52) from the field and knocked down 27-of-35 free throw attempts.
OPSU held a 35-29 advantage at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Lions 19-9 to lead 54-38 entering the fourth quarter.
Langston roared their way back within seven after a free throw by Shanequa Gaston trimmed OPSU's lead to 61-54 at the 3:36; unfortunately, the Lady Lions were unable to get closer in their comeback attempt and dropped to 1-2 at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse this season.
Essence Reece (JR/Denver, Colo.) led the way for Langston with 13 points; Tashara Jones (JR/Atlanta, Ga.) chipped in 12 and Gaston pumped in 10. Addison Munsch paced OPSU and led all scorers with 19 points.
Langston (1-2) hosts St. Gregory's at home on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
