LAWRENCE, Kan. – In their last non-conference matchup of the season, the No. 12 Langston Lions used a pivotal second-half to wrap an 81-69 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Deadlocked at 64-64 with 4:35 left, junior guard Mike Harris (JR/East Chicago, Ind.) was sent to the charity stripe following a foul on Haskell's Ethan Candyfire. Harris missed the first free throw but connected on the second which kick started a pivotal 13-3 scoring run for Lions.
The scoring blitz ended with back-to-back free throws from Harris that put Langston firmly in front at 77-67 at the 1:19 mark in the second half.
HINU was unable to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
The victory pushed the Lions overall record to 18-5; currently it is the highest win total for Langston since the 2006-2007 season.
On the night Langston knocked down 43 percent (23-of-53) from the field and converted 29-of-41 free throw tries.
Six players racked up double-digits for Langston starting with Harris' 20 points; Daniel Mulamba (SR/Democratic Republic of the Con) added 14, Curtis Jones (SR/Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 13 and Jeremy Wilson (SR/Wichita, Kan.) tallied 13 and 11 boards. Myles Elgin and Renard Green (JR/Dallas, Texas) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 respectively.
Langston (18-5, 11-2) hosts Paul Quinn at home on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
