LANGSTON - The Langston Volleyball squad hosted their first home volleyball matches of the year against Southwestern (Kan.) College and Southwestern Christian but fell short 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.

Langston fell behind early in the opening match against the Moundbuilders before clinching the third set 25-22 but still trailed 2-1. In the fourth and final set the Lady Lions trailed 20-18 before Southwestern countered with a 5-1 scoring run to seal the 25-19 set victory and 3-1 win over Langston.
Against Southwestern Christian the Lady Lions dropped the opening set 25-19 but rebounded in the second to lead 20-17. The Eagles answered with three straight points to tie before a service error gave the Lady Lions a 21-20 advantage; tied at 22-22 Langston's Moriah Plowden (SR/Wichita, Kan.) was charged with an attack error followed by a service ace and kill to seal the 25-22 victory for SWC. In the third and final set the Lady Lions and Eagles entered the homestretch tied at 20-20 before back-to-back attack errors and a service ace netted the Eagles a 24-20 advantage. Langston and Southwestern Christian traded kills which allowed the Eagles to escape with a 25-21 victory and clinch the match.

- In the opener the Lady Lions posted a .085 hitting percentage with 23 errors, in game two Langston hit .081 with 23 errors as well.
- Moriah Plowden led Langston in kills against Southwestern (Kan.) with 12 and Cherish Barry (JR/Salina, Okla.) tallied eight in game two against Southwestern Christian.
- Karlyn Estwick (FR/Omaha, Neb.) tallied a season-high 26 assists against the Moundbuilders and added 24 assists versus the Eagles.
Langston heads to the Oklahoma Wesleyan Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla. The Lady Lions face Southwestern Assemblies of God on Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. followed by Sterling College at 5 p.m. They'll follow up with matches against the College of the Ozarks and Randall University on Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
